Quite a difference since yesterday! And since I’m almost 100% sure my friends Natalia and Jenny don’t read my blog this is what I got them for Christmas:
Record bowls, Natalie Dee T’s, and two slices of the pumpkin bars I made earlier this week! Hooray!
Today I found out that I have been hired as the new promotions coordinator at Rewind 94.9 in Cincinnati! What an awesome early Christmas present for me! I start January 1st but as of right now it’s only part time. Since it’s winter so not a lot is going on. So I’m going to try to stay a few hours at Bath and Body Works in the meantime.
Additionally since it was so warm outside Lucy was patrolling the backyard against the recent onslaught of bunnies.
Today despite not having much to do I decided to not waste my day by taking a few trial runs on holiday baking. The first recipe I tried was pumpkin bars with cream cheese icing. I got the recipe from a friend from work brought the bars in for Black Friday. I’m not a fan of pumpkin pie so I passed on trying one until two days later when I worked a late floorset. The ladies I worked with raved about how good they were and I had to have one. It was just as good as they had said. So today I tried baking it myself:

Post Baking and cut into bars:
Once these were finished baking I made some Puppy chow! Sorry Lucy… despite the name this isn’t for you! But don’t be sad. She got a regular dog treat after I took the photo.
As a Christmas present for myself I bought icing tips. This was my trial run and it was pretty fun. I ended up deciding just to ice them regularly because I had a lot of leftover icing and since they were all different they looked a little silly.
This Natalie Dee comic gave me quite the giggle. Later today I’ll heading up to Lima OH with the family for the ONU Holiday Spectacular. It’s something my family has done since I was nine although I’ve skipped the last few years (college) so I’m excited to see it again. I actually have all my shopping done and all I have left to do is bake cookies.
In other news one of my videos from the Brendan Benson concert was featured on Brooklyn Vegan! So that’s pretty cool. I’m wondering if I should add a published page to my website? The only other published work I have is a Lou Malnatis story that featured a photo I took but I currently have a photo pending to be put in Schmap!! So maybe I’ll wait and see if that get published and then add that page.
Lately I’ve been taking steps to try to better myself: volunteering, exercising and eating right (I’m also considering taking up yoga). As far as eating goes I’ve been challenging myself to make one day a week meatless. It has been much harder than I originally thought. I tend to start out really well at the beginning of the day and then I have moments where I completely forget and end up eating a chicken sandwich (or a burger or really any other meat) So I’m writing this to put it out in the blogosphere that I will commit to one day meat free a week starting today.
Breakfast: Bagel, Vanilla Yogurt, OJ
Lunch: Grilled Cheese, Cream of Broccoli Soup, Water
The downside: You do have to have an Amazon account and you must get the Amazon downloader to get the music. However, on the 25 days of holiday music there is also a link to singles that are free or bargains for the day (this includes several full albums for $5 woo-hoo!).
In an unrelated note Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is set to expire in 4 days from Hulu. Check it out here and the movie as well as the soundtrack is on my Christmas list. *wink wink*
So I’ve been a bit busy lately. I’ve picked up a seasonal job at Bath and Body Works and soon I will be getting my substitute teaching license. I’m still trying to decide whether or not I want to go back to school or keep trying to find a job.
In my free time there is still a lot of hanging out with my dog but luckily I’ve had a few other distractions as well.
This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Brendan Benson concert in Indianapolis. It was phenomenal and a very lucky trip. I was front row, I got some killer video, and at the end I was handed the set list. Then on the way home I won $1 on an Indiana scratch off ticket. Win!
This video is part of the encore where Brendan and Cory Chisel (of the opening band) covered Tom Petty’s American Girl. I also uploaded “Don’t Wanna Talk” and “What I’m Looking For” on Youtube.
Sorry for the terrible video quality. The weather was so nice today (Mid 60’s!?!) that I just whipped out my cell phone while out walking Lucy. I tried to make up for the poor video quality by using the intro to 40 Day Dream by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Enjoy!
