My 70-pound lab rolls over for treats. It’s pretty funny.

How I feel
August 21st, 2009 § 0
This is how I’m trying to feel:

This is how I actually feel:

I move back to Sidney OH next Friday unless I can find a job in the next week. And I’ve lost my glasses which is terribly inconvenient for late nights/early mornings.
Guess what came in the mail today…

Woo-hoo! It’s official!
A lucky break?
July 26th, 2009 § 0
So I may have gotten a lucky break in the job hunt this past week!
I was working at the Ugly Truth premiere for CityBeat. Usually CityBeat, Zipscene, and whatever company set up the movie (normally the Owens Group but occasionally some others) are the ones who show up to promote. At this movie there was a guy I’ve never seen before from a radio station. Just on a whim I asked if they were hiring and he said they haven’t even gotten it up on the site yet but they were looking for promotions people. He gave me the number of the lady I should speak with and I called the next day and left a message.
Friday I worked with Dylan (my intern supervisor) for CityBeat at the Bad Veins CD release/Midpoint Indie Concert Series on Fountain Square. I was telling him about how awesome this would be if it panned out. As it turns out, he knows the guy I talked to and is going to help in trying to get me this job. So that’s really exciting.
However, if that doesn’t pan out I have an interview with Security National Automotive tomorrow. They’re hiring for a front desk receptionist. Downside to this is that it’s in Mason but at least it will keep me out of my parents house.
Personally, life has been good. I’ve lost 10 pounds in July and I’m starting to be able to tell. My clothes are fitting better! Yay! Also, I’ve gotten into the habit of re-purposing t-shirts… making them a little more feminine. I’m hoping to stop/find something else before they’re all cut up. Here’s an example:
Look at those tan lines… bonus points if you know what the shirt is from.
Pardon the nostalgia.

I’ve never been much of a camera person. There is always one friend around during any momentous occasion that NEEDS to have these photos, so I’m happy just to be included. Lately I’ve had a lot of time to think and there is a large possibility I might be leaving Cincinnati in a little over a month. 42 days if we’re going to be exact. It’s a little heartbreaking. So in between all the job/apartment searching I’ve been going back through old photo albums of my last 4 years here. I’m actually thrilled at everything I’ve done and how involved I was in peoples lives. That being said I’ve also been really frustrated by how flaky I have been in the past and how flaky others have been to me recently. So even though the possibility of me leaving is high right now I’m going to do the best I can to still be involved.
Personally, life has been interesting. I feel like I’m stuck in this awkward limbo of kid/grown up. More specifically, the student/real job limbo.

Also, my friends keep trying to set me up on dates. It’s been pretty interesting. Sometimes I feel that people perceive being single as something that’s wrong with you. But I’m not complaining. I’ve really enjoyed meeting people. The next guy I’m supposed to meet is a Civil War reenactment person? I don’t know their official title but I find it funny that someone my age does Civil War reenactments. What a strange hobby, but I have to say I’m really intrigued.
Other than all this my interview at Half-Price Books didn’t pan out. It was frustrating because they had obviously already made a decision but at least it gave me a little practice.
Final observation: It’s amazing how good listening to the Beatles makes me feel.
Forecastle = Happy Joss
July 11th, 2009 § 1
I had the pleasure of attending the Forecastle Festival yesterday. The festival was named ‘One of the top 101 things to do in America” - Spin Magazine. It did not disappoint even though it was around 90 degrees with little wind the entire time. The shows were phenomenal! I saw Cage the Elephant, The Whigs, a little of Cincinnati’s own Bad Veins, some great DJ’s, and The Black Keys! There were also environmental and art booths spread all over Bellevedere Park. It was really quite amazing. CityBeat was one of the sponsors and they sent me to take photos for the website. Here are a few!

It was so hot out!

Parker from The Whigs

Hula Hoop at Night

Patrick & Dan of The Black Keys
Happy 4th of July! +a few site updates!

Lately I’ve been having trouble sleeping, although I think I have everything worked out… Even if it happens to be 2am on July 4th! Happy Birthday America!

I will be celebrating it with the family. My dad was in a bad car accident on Wednesday and my parents have been in and out of the hospital. As of today everything is okay so I feel a bit better about coming home.
Additionally, I’ve changed the last.fm to “What I’m listening to” which now just shows the album covers. I like it quite a bit more. Adds some much needed color to the page. I also added friends Brandon Kisker and Chris Johnson to my blogroll. Check them out!
Apartment hunting
June 27th, 2009 § 0
I’ve recently been a bit burned out on the job search (one of my safety jobs rejected me- Bank Teller in Sidney Ohio) so I’ve decided to check into apartments. I’ve actually found an apartment with beautiful bay windows and a great location. I wish the job search was going as well. I’ve applied to a few jobs at HBO (I can dream, right?) as well as a job for a Social Media Manager for Bonneville radio stations which would be amazing. I will be applying to a few different Half-Price Books locations when I get back to Cincinnati. I just found the ad they posted on Careerbuilder and with two years at CD/Game Exchange and two years at F.Y.E. would make this a pretty easy transition.
I’m trying to keep my cool about this but I’m running low on money. My rent is paid up through the end of August and my parents have offered to help me out but I wouldn’t feel right burdening them with my living expenses. I’m still happily interning with CityBeat and I really wish they were hiring instead of laying off because I love the people. However, I’m keeping my cool. My mom keeps telling me that “something will come up.” And it will.
A quick update
June 25th, 2009 § 0
I’ve been pretty busy recently I’m still interning and spending time with family and friends before I find my still illusive job. On that note, my cell phone is out of commission until Friday afternoon at the latest. I left my charger at home while visiting last weekend. So if you need me feel free to comment or email!
*** On a side note I would highly recommend Away We Go for a girls night out. It was a fantastic “tug at your heartstrings” movie. Additionally, it features the music of Alexi Murdoch which I thought was interesting because his album is a few years old (2006) but he’s amazing. A review of this to come soon!
