So I may have gotten a lucky break in the job hunt this past week!

I was working at the Ugly Truth premiere for CityBeat. Usually CityBeat, Zipscene, and whatever company set up the movie (normally the Owens Group but occasionally some others) are the ones who show up to promote. At this movie there was a guy I’ve never seen before from a radio station. Just on a whim I asked if they were hiring and he said they haven’t even gotten it up on the site yet but they were looking for promotions people. He gave me the number of the lady I should speak with and I called the next day and left a message.

Friday I worked with Dylan (my intern supervisor) for CityBeat at the Bad Veins CD release/Midpoint Indie Concert Series on Fountain Square. I was telling him about how awesome this would be if it panned out. As it turns out, he knows the guy I talked to and is going to help in trying to get me this job. So that’s really exciting.

However, if that doesn’t pan out I have an interview with Security National Automotive tomorrow. They’re hiring for a front desk receptionist. Downside to this is that it’s in Mason but at least it will keep me out of my parents house.

Personally, life has been good. I’ve lost 10 pounds in July and I’m starting to be able to tell. My clothes are fitting better! Yay! Also, I’ve gotten into the habit of re-purposing t-shirts… making them a little more feminine. I’m hoping to stop/find something else before they’re all cut up. Here’s an example:

Look at those tan lines… bonus points if you know what the shirt is from.

Fanboys was recently released on DVD. If you haven’t heard of Fanboys I wouldn’t blame you. I saw the preview for this when Clerks 2 was released in theater (July 2006), but it took another two years for it to release in theaters/on DVD. The film deals with five friends from Ohio who go on a mission in 1998 to watch the rough cut of Star Wars Episode I.

First of all, I loved and could relate to this movie more than I had been able to anticipate. A little known fact- I was present at all three midnight showings for the first Star Wars movies. If that’s not embarrassing enough… When I was in junior high (around the first episode came out) my friends and I had a sleepover where we watched all 3 of the older (better) Star Wars movies. Then we made up a dance to the Mos Eisley Cantina theme song to perform for our parents when they picked us up. Additionally, I read the books in the Star Wars expanded universe. Yes. I was not a cool kid. After junior high & high school I decided to play it cool (yeah right) and hung up my Star Wars nerdery.

Fanboys changed all that. You know those junior high friends I made up the dance with? One of them watched this movie with me and there were parts that made us laugh so hard the other two people we were watching it with got worried about us. However, even if you don’t like Star Wars you can still appreciate the movie for it friendship and bonding that takes place on their cross country trip. Highly recommended for everyone!

The Mos Eisley Cantina song… In case you want to make your own dance?

I was so surprised tonight. I had planned to go see Anvil! The Story of Anvil! Sunday but my friend had seen it on midnight the night before. Anvil was actually in attendance for the performance so I really couldn’t blame him. However, tonight was the last night I could possibly see it so I had to jump at the chance.

It was not at all what I had expected. First of all it was very funny. From the plot synopsis I had heard it seemed as though it would be depressing, but these guys had a great sense of humor. They realized they were old but refused to give up on their dream. The ending (I won’t spoil it) was so great. Realistic, but you still were able to celebrate all the accomplishments the band had made throughout the movie. The second thing was how honest everyone was in the movie. These guys in their 50’s were still living dreams they had since they were 15, but they still realized they were adults (married, kids, etc.) They had “normal” jobs and then would take 5 weeks off to go on tour. Third, I loved the relationship between Lips – the singer/guitarist and Robb – the drummer. They’ve been so dedicated to each other for almost their entire lives. I hope that my best friend and I can maintain that kind of relationship when we’re old.

There were great one liners and the movie was just fantastic. Highly recommended.

Last night I went to see Sunshine Cleaning at the Esquire. I have been looking forward to this for quite some time because I love Amy Adams. Enchanted and Doubt were fantastic and I was looking forward to seeing her in an indie movie role. Unfortunatly, I was rather disappointed. They left quite a few loose ends in the movie and sometimes depressing reality works (Juno etc.) and you come out with a positive end. This movie was just completely depressing. The “happy ending” happened really quickly and then the movie was over. There was no chance to be happy at the success of the main characters.

Likes & Dislikes:

+The plot was good up until the climax.
+I liked the sisterly bond and the family interaction.

-Sometimes the dialogue didn’t make sense until you learned more about the characters.
-The child was adorable but a terrible actor.
-The CB Radio part of the story didn’t make any sense.
-Too many loose ends: I really wanted to see Amy’s character go out with a nice guy, I don’t understand why the fannie pack sub-story had so much weight and then didn’t amount to anything, and what the hell was going on with the one armed guy? Did he really add anything that the main characters couldn’t have done themselves?
