3AM Blogging

February 9th, 2010 § 0

I drank a coffee around 6 last night. I haven’t had any caffeine in weeks.  It’s affecting my sleep, but I don’t have to be at work until 3pm tomorrow so I think I’ll be okay.

At least the last few hours I’ve been productive! I uploaded 4 videos of a Motion City Soundtrack concert I went to in January. The last time I saw them in concert was freshman year of college (2005ish) so I was really excited to see them again… Even though two albums have come out since then and I didn’t know anything off of either of them. They made the show awesome for both new and old fans though because they played songs off all four albums. Below is My Favorite Accident from their first album, I Am The Movie. I was lucky enough to film one song from each record which you can check out here.

Additionally, at the beginning of the year I learned a new skill. I visited my Grandparents for a weekend and while I was there my Grandma taught me to crochet. I’m still learning, but I’ve finished my second scarf yesterday! Here the lovely Chris Hodapp models my scarf. I’m going to be starting on my own scarf soon and I’m pretty excited about that. However, I’m lucky I have Chris and Liza who actually wanted my testers.

Other than that I’m still in the process of moving. I’ve also started reading Which Brings Me to You by Steve Almond and Julianna Baggott which is really good. I highly recommend it. I’m sure there’s more, but I’m running on caffeine and tiredness. So I’ll update later in a more coherent state.

Christmas time is heeeeeeeeeere

This Natalie Dee comic gave me quite the giggle. Later today I’ll heading up to Lima OH with the family for the ONU Holiday Spectacular. It’s something my family has done since I was nine although I’ve skipped the last few years (college) so I’m excited to see it again. I actually have all my shopping done and all I have left to do is bake cookies.

In other news one of my videos from the Brendan Benson concert was featured on Brooklyn Vegan! So that’s pretty cool. I’m wondering if I should add a published page to my website? The only other published work I have is a Lou Malnatis story that featured a photo I took but I currently have a photo pending to be put in Schmap!! So maybe I’ll wait and see if that get published and then add that page.

Anyway, Happy holidays!

25 Days of Free Christmas Music?!?

December 1st, 2009 § 0

I don’t think there could be anything better.

Today while shopping for a birthday present for the lovely Natalia Owsiany I stumbled upon Amazon’s 25 Days of Free. A new holiday song everyday through Christmas! Today’s song is Joy to the World by Casting Crowns.

The downside: You do have to have an Amazon account and you must get the Amazon downloader to get the music. However, on the 25 days of holiday music there is also a link to singles that are free or bargains for the day (this includes several full albums for $5 woo-hoo!).

Happy Thanksgiving!

In an unrelated note Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is set to expire in 4 days from Hulu. Check it out here and the movie as well as the soundtrack is on my Christmas list. *wink wink*

First Listens: New music for October 27th

October 21st, 2009 § 0

Morningwood’s sophomore album, Diamonds and Studs comes out October 27. With a name like Morningwood you might think this band is sexually charged, and you’d be right. In “How You Know It’s Love”  lead singer Chantel playfully sings “When the Birds and the Bees are down on their knees/That’s how you know it’s love.” The first single off Diamonds and Studs,  “Sugarbaby” (shown below) follows a puppet version of Chantel trying to find her Sugardaddy and doing anything for him.  All-in-all this album is just fun. Hard guitars, catchy choruses, and a strong female rocker who makes no apologies. You can check out the full album before it comes out for free on Rhapsody.

Twin sisters Tegan & Sara are releasing their sixth album Sainthood next Tuesday. Honestly, though lets say this is the fourth, maybe even the third because the first two were pretty terrible but the third showed some promise.  I’m excited for this release because I loved So Jealous, eventually loved The Con and I am hopeful about Sainthood. Since I haven’t been able to check it out yet I won’t give an opinion yet but the full album is available now on their myspace.

Music Pick of the Week

The new single from the Avett Brothers, I and Love and You, comes out this Tuesday. It’s fantastic and (since I love you) I made it very easy to check out the official video.

This is old news, but it’s still pretty cool. Who is that lovely lady at 3:47?

(Hint: It’s me. I’m to the right of sunglasses)

Brand New vs. Kanye West

So. Brand New’s new album Daisy is coming out in September (I’ve already pre-ordered the signed cd and vinyl) and it’s wholeheartedly renewed my interest in the forums on their street team. I think this mashup is amazing. Kanye West is quite a guilty pleasure of mine.

Great Albums Out Soon!

August 6th, 2009 § 1

I have only in the last few months become a huge fan of NPR’s Exclusive First Listen. But they’ve had some great stuff in the last few weeks! Most recently you can hear Brendan Benson’s My Old, Familar Friend two weeks before it hits stores!

8.18 – Brendan Benson’s 4th solo album My Old, Familar Friend release.

Benson is well know for his work with The Raconteurs, partnering with Jack White from The White Stripes and Cincinnati’s own Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler from The Greenhornes. If you’re at all a fan of Benson’s last release, An Alternative to Love, then you will enjoy My Old Familar Friend. But don’t take my word for it! Full album is streaming for free at NPR Exclusive First Listen!

9.22- Brand New’s Forth Album, Daisy in Stores.

Alright. I’ll be honest. I’ve been in love with this band since I was 16 years old. I own The Rookie Lot (the band some of the members were in before Brand New/Movielife/Nightmare of You- number 387/1000) 7inch. I’m a super fan. I cannot wait for this album to come out. They will be releasing the single “At The Bottom” on their myspace on Monday August 10th. You can hear a clip here. It reminds me a bit of Modest Mouse, but I’m excited for the new direction. Additionally, spin.com reports that this album was conceived by guitarist Vincent Accardi instead of frontman Jesse Lacey. This will be an intense month and a half of anticipation.
